What is
Acupuncture?
-
Acupuncture is a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine in which specific points in the body are stimulated with very thin needles to create balance in the body and stimulate Qi. Pronounced "chee," Qi is the body's energy or life force. Qi flows along meridians that look similar to the circulatory system. There are 12 main meridians, each related to one of the body's major organ systems. Imbalances in these meridians can cause a blockage or stagnation in the flow of Qi.

Acupuncture is a safe and effective healing art dating back over 2,000 years and treating over 2,000 conditions. One benefit to acupuncture is that treatments can be individualized based on both symptoms and response to care. As with chiropractic, everyone responds differently, based on factors such as how long the complaint has been going on, what initially caused it, and overall health/lifestyle factors. Some people experience relief or improvement in just a few treatments, while others require several sessions before significant change occurs.

Since acupuncture is all about creating balance to allow the body to self-heal, an added bonus of acupuncture treatment is that often patients will notice improvement in symptoms other than the primary complaint, such as stress, fatigue, or immunity.
